sharon feder: convergence

Sharon Feder
Convergence
new paintings

Opening Reception for the artist will be held on Friday, October 2, 2009 from 6 - 10 p.m. Exhibition continues through October 31, 2009.

Sharon Feder's life-long commitment to painting is intense and unrelenting. Her journey in painting has taken her from formal roots into the land of the abstract, to landscape, and back through portraiture and structural still life. Approaching painting as both an emotional communication with the observer and as technical challenge, Feder breaks rules and tests assumptions while exploring the communication that exists between shadow, reflection, and atmosphere.

Feder’s new exhibition, Convergence, is a continuation of her exploration of the River North Series. These new paintings take on a semi-abstraction of architectural forms while maintaining the integrity of the previous imagery. In these new works her approach of combining imagery (extreme close-ups, distant images, silhouettes, etc.) in multiple paintings (diptychs, triptychs, etc.) create a dialogue that offers an even more descriptive sense of place. At the same time, questions of identity are given a complex representation in both time and place.

3 Bodies in 3 States: A Survey of Work from 2004-2009

Opening Reception, Friday, July 3, 2009 - 6 to 9 p.m.
Exhibition continues through August 1, 2009

Sellars Project Space will host a survey of sculptural work by Colorado artist Joseph Shaeffer. Shaeffer who has worked in many experimental materials; steel, wire, glass, magnets, hardware, will be exhibiting selected works from the last 5 years including 3 works from his new series,Encroachment (...of nature on technology). This survey will include sculptures from primarily three series; Manifest as Tension, Confront/(A)Void, and Encroachment.

Shaeffer has maintained an almost architectural balance in his work throughout his sculptural career. His most-recent work to be displayed (released in 2008) introduced an almost landscape inspired imagery (cut paper) with his newest work delving more into natural elements. The unveiling of his new series will surely enlighten and intrigue collectors.

Each artist’s work in the exhibition touches on each (and in some cases all) of these definitions.

Sense of Place opens in Sellars Project Space’s new location at 4383 Tennyson Street on Friday, June 5, 2009 with an exhibition for the artists from 6 - 9 p.m. during the Tennyson Street Cultural District’s First Friday Artwalk.
